Farther than the Blue Sky is a Japanese adult romance visual novel themed around rocket design and engineering. Players control Otoya Hayabusa, a student who lives on the fictional Japanese island of Amanoshima home to a prestigious academy which specializes in fishery and rocket construction. Otoya is a fishery student; he has always been interested in rockets, but has never worked on them until a girl named Arisa Akatsuki invites him to join her rocket science club, Byakko. Byakko is imperiled when its members are informed that it will be shut down unless they win a rocket design competition before the start of the second term. Together with Arisa, the ditzy but determined Nazuna Ibuki, Otoya's childhood friend Honoka Michibiki, and the pragmatic honor student Kaho Reimei, Otoya sets out to achieve his dreams and build a rocket that will touch the sky.
