Just like the previous titles, the 2013 version of the Emergency games is a real-time-strategy game where the goal is to save lives. Instead of fighting enemies, the player takes control of the fire department, police, medical rescue services as well as technical relief units and fights disasters to save humans.

The game has two different modes:* There are five free play maps, where the player chooses a disaster and the goals are generated by the software.

    A campaign with 19 missions. In the campaign, the European super volcano is about to explode. The player has to prevent that by making boreholes on strategic locations. Beside this, the player has to deal with the first results of the starting eruption. New places in the campaign are Sylt, Vienna, the Eiffel Tower and the Vatican.

Beside the units from the game Emergency 2012, there is an additional unit: the flying drone.
