After January 17, 2019 during the Raid Mode update, the game stopped receiving updates without a statement made as to why, and was held in a limbo state. Even though the game was still playable, no developments were made towards the game, and events simply repeated endlessly.

Version 1.4.3 (or 1.3.6 on Android) was the last update for CookieWars, and as such the lobby had snow as part of the celebration for New Years Eve, this snow has since remained throughout the game's lifespan until its shutdown.

OrumLabs was also revealed to have been terminated due to its poor performance, potentially even because of bankruptcy.

On April 16th, 2020, Devsisters announced that CookieWars' service would come to an end on May 15th, 2020 due to certain difficulties maintaining the service.

As announced previously, CookieWars has entered its shutdown period on the 15th of May, 2020. In the following 24 hours of the closure date, the game would send out various free mythic copies and other materials to all players. The game was then finally shutdown at 8PM GMT, with the official CookieWars X (formerly Twitter) account sending out a tweet[7], apologizing for their inability to maintain the game any longer, and telling the players that the Cookies will always be on other adventures in the other CookieRun games.
